The photos wouldn't have been half as nice had we shot them in a different location. Fortunately, Niño Laus and Cris Orocio, owners of In-Yo, graciously lent us their space. They even served their famous iced-tea (one of the best mix I've ever tasted!). The romantic ambience partnered with their friendly service and great food are just some of the reasons why In-Yo is one of my favorite restos/hang-outs ever.

I was so excited when I chose Rosan Reodica (Osan, to some) to model along with Wynna, one of our pioneer models, for our birthday shoot. One, because she seems really sweet, and second because she's a fashion design student. In fact, she was part of QTV 11 May Trabaho Ka's search for the next fashion designer (love her designs in the final episode, by the way). If you recognize her in the photos, you probably saw her there.

My instincts were right because she was even sweeter in person! She's so good-natured and easy to get along with. She even gave me a pair of owl earring as pasalubong from her Hong Kong trip (she was there for fashion week, ugh). She's proof that beauty and kindness when combined can outshine the prettiest plastic supermodels in the world. Thanks, Osan, you truly are --- daaashing!

Just some perks of being a Dash model

I never realized what great potential having beautiful models can have. I've always thought that the photos we took for Dash were cool and represented our products well, (thanks to my gorgeous friends, obviously) but I never realized just how big an impact these photos would have.

In fairness, the photos of our models have come a long way. For one, G-let's photo was published in the Philippine Star. It was actually quite big and would have cost a lot of we had paid for the ad space (thanks to Abby Rebong for this). Another photo was used for our GCash event, where G-let (again), Ja, and Wynna's photos were used for the email ads and tarps.

No wonder so many girls are 'applying' to be the next Dash model. Naturally, the next step would be to hold a model search. Well, it's all for the best really, since I'm running out of beautiful friends to use! =)

Stripe 'n Carry

If you think the stripes trend is fading, think again. The stripes are making a comeback, or should I say, comebag?

These 60's inspired bags have definitely come at a perfect time, what with the graphic trend and the re-proliferation of blacks and whites in dresses and shoes.

Exhibit A. St. John plastic purse. I love the whole film noirish mood it sets. Think smoky lounge bar, red lips, high stilleto heels. And then, imagine the St. John endorser herself, Angelina Jolie, walking into the room carrying this bag. As my Spanish class teacher taught me, iQue fatal!

I never really liked her style. I've always found it to be too flambouyant and artificial. Case in point, her mug shot. Take note of the curled eyelashes and the angle of the face. Was she posing for a mug shot or a fashion cover? Was this even taken in jail? Kudos to her, though, for making an effort to look good for any kind of photo op.

Yes, she's the winner of our Dash and GCash Model Search! Her name is Cheryl Gutierrez. Her legs may go on forever (take note, she's 5'9), but that's not why we chose her. She has a naturally sweet yet sultry look, which can be achieved without her even trying. More importantly, she willingly climbed walls and walked on mud for us just to get the perfect shot. Now, that's a true-blue Dash model.

What inspired you to join the Dash Model Search?

I love modeling, that drove me to join.

What is the experience like modeling for Dash?

It was such a wonderful experience. I had fun working with Ms Lai and her friends.They are very accomodating and friendly.

How was the photoshoot? Did you enjoy/hate it?

I enjoyed the photoshoot. It was a bit tiring but I really enjoyed it. Would you believe that the beautiful pictures were taken by Ms. Lai, herself ?! =) (Sidenote: Yes, it's true, I'm that talented!)

What advice/tips can you give to other girls who also want to model for Dash?

As long as you are confident, the model in you will shine through.

What can you say about the style of the clothes in Dash?

Simple yet elegant.

What is your style profile (your style for the office/everyday/going out)?

I like simple clothes because you can easily style them by accessorizing.

Do you think Dash complements your lifestyle? How?

Yes, because Dash clothes are wearable... meaning they are stylish and they fit your body perfectly. The clothes you wear in the office can still be your get-up for your night outs/gimmicks. Indeed, the perfect wear for a woman like me who is always on-the-go.

THE Flip-flop vs. THE Tsinelas

I found this so funny and just had to take a picture. It says so much about culture, mentality and commodity. Imagine my boyfriend's Havaianas in combat with our bangkero's tsinelas (Beach Walk? Spartan?).

Who do you think will win?

The Havaianas

Strengths

- well-known brand all over the world

- supposedly made of some special rubber

- cute/can be personalized (can be adorned with rhinestones, etc.)

- durable

Weaknesses

- expensive (hello, I'm not paying more than P100 for a pair of rubber slippers, unless someone buys it for me)

- the whole world is wearing them (or is this a strength?)

The Tsinelas

Strengths

- tried and tested by Filipinos for years

- cheap (P50? now that's more like it)

- locally made (support the local industry!)

- can be worn for any occasion (can you imagine leaving your Havaianas for bathroom use? didn't think so)

- can look jologs and pudpod and still function

Weaknesses

- probably not as durable is it is not made of some special rubber

I don't know about you, but my bet is on the original. Nothing beats the tsinelas.

Lately, I've been bothered by the word ----

Style.

Such a nice word to say, no? So flowing, so... stylish.

Anyway, I've been writing this so-called 'Style Diary', but all I ever talk about is fashion. Are style and fashion synonymous to each other? I refuse to believe this. I love style, I refuse to be limited to writing about 'fashion'.

Fashion for me, more specifically refers to the clothes, desginer labels, etc. It's also more of a professsion, like when people ask, "What do you do?" - "Oh, I'm in the fashion world." People never say, "Oh, I'm in the style world." It just doesn't sound the same. Although, it does sound more profound.

Sidenote: I looked up the definition of 'style' online to further enlighten me and was struck by one definition in particular:

[dash: distinctive and stylish elegance; "he wooed her with the confident dash of a cavalry officer"]

Well, well well. So Dash hits the style spot.

Anyway, so many other definitions came up: A particular kind of appearance, manner, vogue, fashion, none of which was new to me. I guess what I wanted to find was something more inspiring, such as, 'style is a way of life' or 'style is a way of thinking'. For me, style can be seen in anyone who chooses to have and use it. Some study it, some express it. As for me, well, I choose to live it.

Another thing that I realized is that it's a decision to have style. I don't believe anymore in the term 'effortless style' because, well, style IS an effort. Some can just exhibit it more naturally and gracefully than others. Even Kate Moss' dubbed 'effortless' style probably required several decades of planning just so she could look like she just 'put on the first thing she saw in the closet'.

My point being that I don't want to just write about fashion anymore. From now on, I will be writing about anything I perceive to be stylish. A house, a dog, a painting, a manang on the street. Of course, fashion will still be the main thing, but it won't be the only thing. I will write about anything that inspires me, and you will like it.

Or maybe you won't. But what the hell, style may be a lot of things, but it certainly isn't absolute. =)

He was named Accessories Designer of the Year by the Accessories Council of Excellence in 2001. And in 2002, he was recognized by his country with the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) award for fashion design in the Philippines.
"I thought that that was the ultimate coup because it was our country acknowledging the fact that fashion is an industry that can contribute". It's not just about medicine, politics, or agriculture," Rafe said proudly.
Though international celebrities have become regular patrons, Rafe is far from forgetting his roots. A few years back, he even created a special collection honoring Filipino women. I never really liked the Prada style. That is, until I saw Victoria Beckham's Prada Gauffre bag! It's so subtle and simple, but the "ruffles" make it so feminine. Plus, I like the fact that it's big enough to carry my dog. hehe. It seems to be one of Posh's favorites since she's been photographed in more one occassion carrying it. I don't blame her, this bag can go with anything and is so practical for everyday use, especially for on-the-go women like us.

In the following weeks, I will be posting articles about Filipinos who are making headlines from their success. Because this is a style diary, I will focus on those in the fashion industry.

I hope these stories will inspire us to give our ideas and dreams a chance to materialize. I also hope that they will give us the courage to believe in ourselves. That starting a business or fashion line, though small, is okay, and that making it big, though hard, is possible and well within our reach.

Filipina's designer bags hit in US stores

Does the name Jenny Syquia ring a bell? This Filipina-American spent a career in fashion publishing having been a former Vogue fashion assistant editor and Bridal magazine editor. But to many, Jenny may be more familiar as the ex-wife of former movie heartthrob Gabby Concepcion, who apart from her controversial marriage had a brief movie and hosting career in the Philippines back in the late 1990's.

But now look out world, this pretty lady is taking her flashy and fabulous fashion style to Hollywood. Along with sister Christine, they are now the Ã«fashionistas' behind the handbag and accessories line Charm & Luck.

Their kitschy, fun styles are now carried in more than 1,700 stores in 25 countries, including Nordstrom and Bloomingdale's - a miraculous feat for a company that just celebrated its second year of business. The line is also now the fashion picks of some of the more trendy magazines and stores in the US. Well-known fashion trend store Pizzaz quotes,'We are absolutely mad for our newest handbag line-Charm and Luck by Jenny Syquia. They're flashy and fabulous, studded with crystals and in terrific colors!'

After earning a degree from Boston University, Jenny landed in the fashion department of Vogue and eventually founded two successful clothing lines. Meanwhile, sister Christine - with a rich retail background - was working as a management executive at Nordstrom. When Jenny turned her attention to accessories, Christine joined her as Charm and Luck's President and Sales Director. And soon the world began to crave bags with names like Dallas Diamond and Savannah Satchel.

"I get my inspiration from places," says Jenny. "If I'm not traveling, I'm reading about traveling and where I want to go next. I read Conde Nast Traveler like it's a bible."

Travel also inspires the materials that go into the product. Christine reports that the company favors working with Italian leather and exotic skins played up with crystals and bling for straps,

"Fashion people want it yesterday," Jenny explains. "I use all custom made leathers, and those take time to produce. I also develop all my own metal molds for buckles and trims, and those take a lot of time to perfect.

Although they say Charm and Luck doesn't have a certain customer their line is in the pricey category selling for US$300 to US$500 for a handbag. Their fair share of celebrity fans includes Jessica Simpson, Teri Hatcher, Pamela Anderson, Sophia Bush, Lindsay Lohan and Ashlee Simpson, just to name a few. And while Christine notes their patronage is powerful, she's just as excited to see non-celebs carrying their bags.

Something yellow
Yup, yellow is the color of life today. A lot of people may think it's a hard color to wear, but really, the secret is finding the right shade for you. But let's not overkill it either. One yellow-colored piece in my outfit is yellow enough for me.

Layered wavy hair
I love my new hair! It's kinda like Elisha Cuthbert's, although since I have dark brown hair and chinky eyes, the effect is Korean. hehe.
But it wouldn't have worked without Kerastase Vinyle Nutri Sculpt. This is truly a miracle in a jar. I have dry and stringy hair so it's hard to manage. But I don't want to straighten it either because i love my waves. Last month, Summit Publishing sent me Kerastase samples (I think I won a promo or something).
I finally tried it last week and I've been using it ever since. It styles my hair but I don't feel anything greasy or hard (the worst). It's truly magical! =)

Giselle and Gisele
Giselle is my super shabby chic dog (no pun intended). She's the cutest, smartest and most-loved dog on earth.

Gisele Bundchen, on the other hand, is just as chic.
She can wear no jewelry at all and still be more glamorous and beautiful than I can ever be. If you see her in the new Dolce and Gabbana ad for "The One" perfume, you'll know what I mean. She's wearing the smallest studded earrings there and she looks like a goddess. Studs are my new favorites now, by the way.

One of my favorite DJs. His songs are so groovy. They're the perfect sound when you're lounging in the beach or dressing up to go out (And it's you, and it's me you love...) He's having a concert on April 21 in Manila. If anybody can give me 2 free tickets, I will give you a free top! =)

My new crush...wedge pumps! I didn't use to like them because I found them too ...glam for everyday. But I saw these brown loafer-ish ones and I fell in love with them! They have this subtle retro effect. They even look like Vincent Camuto and Kors shoes (careful in buying wedge loafers tho 'cuz they have a tendency to look old-fashioned).

Pack-Smart Beach Essentials for Stylish Chicks

Dashing off to the beach for vacation or a weekend getaway? Not so fast! Be sure youve packed all the essential items youll need to stay stylish and chic during your time in the sun! To maximize your fun, minimize the number of beauty accessories you lug along to you vacation location with these helpful packing hints:

Make-up:

* Lip Gloss is critical for preventing chapped, dried out smackers, but even more importantly, for avoiding sunburned lips! Try to find a tasty chap stick that also has SPF protectionread the fine print, as many advertise whether or not they include SPF15 or greater.

Don't stress out over how much eye make-up to bring, and forget about the liquid foundation.

* If you like, pack a waterproof mascara to prevent the waves from washing out your eyes. Nothing is worse than unexpectedly looking like a crybaby when youre having the time of your life in the surf and on the sand! (Do not forget to pack make-up remover, as most waterproof mascara is resistant to even soap and water!)

* Bring a concealer stick or powder compact to touch up blemishes. Too much foundation on a warm day can look and feel cakey or may just run if the temperature is too high. Also, make-up bottles stowed away in luggage, purses and carry-on bags are a bad idea when traveling. I once had a bottle of liquid foundation coat the entire contents of my backpack, destroy a brand-new purse and give me at least an hour of clean-up in one fell swoop! If you simply cannot live without your liquid foundation, place the bottle in a zip-lock bag just in case!

* Craving some color? It cant hurt to bring a hue or two of eye shadow but be careful with lipstick, as it tends to melt when higher temperatures prevail!

Body Care:

* No matter how badly you want a tan, bring suntan lotion to protect your precious hide from overexposure! Though they are possibly the most obvious item, dont forget your sunglasses!

* Just in case you do get some sunburn, do your body a favor and slap on some aloe. A medium-sized plastic bottle is more than you will need, and youll thank yourself for remembering it if you happen to fall asleep on the beach.

* For another miracle remedy, pick up a bottle of cocoa butter lotion. Once the aloe has reduced the burning sensation from your skin, you can rub in a little cocoa butter to prevent peeling and to re-moisturize the afflicted area.

* Have you ever been caught in a sand storm? Well I have, and I cant stress enough about the value of a bottle of eye drops in case those pesky particles of sand find their way into your eyes, whether by a storm itself or by a playful game of football or beach soccer.

* Don't forget your normal necessities such as toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant or antiperspirant, towels, shaving gel and razors, tweezers, body wash, etc.

Hair Care:

* Remember to pack your shampoo and conditioner, brush and comb, elastic bands and/or barrettes. If you dont want to heave your family-sized containers of hair products to your vacation destination, you can easily pick up smaller travel-sized products. (Tight on money? You can always collect the small samples from hotels, as they are there for your use and wouldnt you knowthey fit perfectly in a small make-up bag!)

* When you spend time in the ocean or playing on the beach, what happens to the top of your head is likely the last thing on your mind. To help prevent sunburn on your scalp, consider packing a hat of some sort, a bandana or a hair scarf.

* If dried-out hair due to excessive exposure to sun, chlorine or saltwater is a concern of yours, fret not! When you return home from your time away, try a deep-conditioning treatment or masque (Some use sea kelp to restore moisture).

Clothing:

* For a flirty appearance, bring a cute sarong or wrap to wear to the beach, or simply pack a pair of comfy shorts if you hope to beat up on the guys in football and Frisbee!

* Take two towels: one to lie on and one that is sand-free for when you need to dry off. A beach blanket or beach mat also serve a handy purpose for shore-goers.

* An old T-shirt doubles as an escape from the suns powerful rays when you just want to relax and enjoy the sounds of the surf. Also, a T-shirt is good to have on hand as it is important to cover exposed skin when the sun has already burned it.

* Normal clothes that you should be sure to bring: Shorts and tanks/tees, jeans or other long pants, perhaps a long-sleeve shirt and a hooded sweatshirt, a sundress, pajamas, bathing suit and underclothes. Dont forget to bring a windbreaker or light jacket for those chilly nights off the coast!

* Footwear: Bring sandals or flip-flops, sneakers and shoes to go with at least one nice outfit. (Hint: Try to pack outfits that look nice with the same sandals to reduce the need for extra shoes. As long as you can help it, you should not be toting an entire bag dedicated to shoes alone!)

It is so important that we nourish ourselves -- body, mind and spirit -- and treat ourselves like goddesses. Being kind to oneself is a healthy habit to get into, and the best way to get into the groove is to set aside "Goddess Time" each week for you, and you alone!
We give so much to others, why be stingy with ourselves? Whether in a relationship, hoping to be, or simply enjoying single life, a date with ones self is a powerful metaphor for self-nourishment. And it is the first and most important step toward a balanced, loving relationships with others.

Where to begin? Imagine there is someone in your life you can depend on to pamper, heal and revitalize you, and treat you royally -- for at least a few undisturbed hours each week. Now, imagine that "someone" is YOU. Pick something that would bring you great pleasure -- an activity, an experience, or a material gift -- and agree to give it to yourself.

Start off with something simple. Try a "self-love bath." Crown yourself Queen for a Day or Goddess for several hours a week -- and pamper yourself. Buy beautiful candles, scented oils, flowers. Draw a bath. Play relaxing and sensual music. Slip into the warm water, daydream and allow yourself to bask in the energy of love. It truly creates an impression in your own mind and spirit that you are someone who deserves royal treatment and who is willing to receive it! I cannot tell you how much a simple act of self-love will bring you closer to receiving pampering from others. At the most basic level -- a nice warm bath with candles is very relaxing and it gives you a chance to meditate. and get a new perspective on life.

How do I love me, let me count the ways. Other simple delights include: light a candle and relax in a favorite chair for 15 minutes; take yourself to a movie, out to dinner or to a museum exhibit you've been meaning to see; buy yourself a small gift. The best way to keep your soul nourished is to create an ongoing environment for this nourishment.

Date yourself regularly: Many of us take time out for ourselves just once in awhile and neglect to create the foundation for ongoing revitalization. Why not carve out time and put things in order so that you can access these experiences of self-love and care, regularly. This may mean keeping your favorite bath oil and candles on hand at all times. or ensuring that you have several hours a week alone, to yourself. Think of it this way. if you were dating someone special, wouldn't you go out of your way to make dates and focus attention on the relationship? Do it for yourself, first. this sets the groundwork for others to treat you like the goddess you are!

Goddess inspired fashion dominates

I watched the Golden Globes the other day and couldn't help noticing that most female celebs were wearing Greek inspired dresses (i.e. Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Drew Barrymore and, *smirk*, Jennifer Lopez). FYI, I LOVE ancient Greek robes with their braiding and draping of light flowing fabric. Add star power endorsement to the 2007 fashion forecast I posted here and what do we get? A potentially very popular trend.

Actually, I've been seeing bits and pieces of Greek elements since 2 years ago from all those strappy sandals and aquamarine stone jewelry and, of course, the bronze bangles. But it's only now that I'm sensing the Greek influence in clothes.

Of course, as ordinary practical people, no matter how trendy we want to be, we can't really wear these dresses to school or to work. So all we can do is wait for the RTW designers to convert these styles to more wearable pieces.

In the meantime, I recommend our Athena dress top. I've sold so many of these in, like, 10 colors already. Some of the girls have even bought 2 or 3 different colors of the same style! Hell, I have one. I just love it 'cuz I can wear it as a top with jeans or as a dress. And, yes, it does have that sort of ethereal Greek feel to it. Simply put, girls like it cuz it makes them look so good,almost goddess like. Sadly, I'm down to this last piece in cream. P500 only at Dash!

Animal prints: Another trend that I surprisingly like

I'll never forget Gwen Stefani's animal printed platform shoes in the music video of No Doubt's Sunday Morning. I used to dream about them. I realize that was atleast 10 years ago but the image of those shoes just stayed in my mind. In contrast, seeing older women wear skin tight animal printed blouses (a la martini-drinking-momma in Las Vegas) was just que horor! Talk about tacky.

I guess as in all trends, there's an up and down side. When it comes to animal prints, it's easy to be on the downside. They've always been around, but I never saw them as high or elegant fashion (except for those shoes) because of how people wore them. Lately, I've noticed that they're dominating fashion pages once again, but this time, thanks to Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani and co., I can actually appreciate them without wincing.

So how can one wear animal prints without looking like a Las Vegas Momma? Here's a list of NEVERs:

1. Never combine it with other prints and bright colors. If you're wearing animal printed shoes, it'll probably be better if the rest of your outfit is plain and neutral-colored.

2. Never wear more than one piece of animal printed material. Don't go overboard on the trend and wear your animal printed shoes, animal printed purse and animal printed head band (with matching animal printed sunglasses and scarf) all at the same time. Settle down, there's plenty of time to wear them. Besides, seeing as animal prints have passed the test of time, this trend won't be going away anytime soon.

3. Never buy cheap animal printed stuff. The print is already stylishly dangerous, what more if it's made of leatherette that threads at the edges or of plastic that fades and gets scratched too easily? Las Vegas Momma alert! But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you should buy real fur with real animal print. Killing animals just for the print is just not cool.

4. Never buy animal printed stuff that combines more than one animal print pattern in the same material. Talk about overkill. Okay, we get it, you LOVE ANIMAL PRINTS!

2007 Fashion Forecast

Apparently, it's still a little too early for 2007 fashion forecasts. It took me a whole hour surfing Google just to find an appropriate article. I kept on stumbling upon 2007 Autumn/Winter trends, which, obviously, we can't use here in the Philippines. But for those who are fashionably brave, fur is back (faux fur, that is). Oh, and, layering is still hot (literally, in our case).

Anyway, here's one for Spring. Found it in a website called "Poughkeepsie Journal" (cute name!).

To best understand where we are going in the 2007 fashion world, we need to look back on where we’ve been. The past year was huge in fashion.

For my generation, it was the first time we saw something we actually wore come back. Styles from the ’80s hit huge, and I finally got a taste of what it is like to try and reincorporate something that you wore the first time it was in fashion. My conclusion on this is that you truly should only adopt a trend once. Although I can’t live without waist belts and skinny jeans (which both carry on into the new year), overdoing the revival of an era looks plain silly on anyone over the age of 20.

2006 also brought about a massive change in proportions. Skinny jeans and voluminous jackets got us thinking in a whole new way.

The success of any season can be measured by how many styles we take with us as time passes. And by that measure, 2006 was a successful year in fashion. Nautical styles, jersey knits, bubble skirts, skinny pants, layering (this gets even bigger), sky-high platforms and metallics prevail well into 2007.

Look like a goddess

My personal favorite theme of the season to come is the fluid, ethereal, Greek goddess look — proving that sexy can be easy, flowy, natural and care-free.

Other themes have emerged from the runways, as well. The ’80s continue to play a major role in how we’ll be dressing, and this time around we take the “sporty city” angle from decades past. Chic wind pants and anoraks are perfectly suitable for day wear.

Big in the fashion world, though not my personal preference, is a “futuristic” note. More than likely, these high-gloss items will not be a rage that sweeps across the country, but their influence will trickle down on mainstream America. Designers’ unapologetic use of color — primary blues, yellows and robust berries — will allow these far-out designs to go from runways to department stores.

The zeitgeist that allows for ease of movement and individuality has brought us some really beautiful pieces.

The “fresh from the runway” must-haves for spring 2007 are:

1. Dresses. Keep them ultra-feminine. For fashion forward silhouettes go pouffy or try a tent/trapeze style.

2. A ruffled blouse. Typical tailored, button-down blouses look unnatural and stiff this season. Pick something soft, with embellishments that pay homage to the Victorian era, and wear a camisole.

3. Shorts. On the runway, we saw super short shorts. This style is made more practical by elongating the short. A city style, walking short or even a pair that has pleats is a more realistic way to go. Realistic, unless, of course, you’re on vacation somewhere sunny and then there are no limits as to how high they can go!

4. A platform wedge shoe. The higher the better, peep toe or strappy, bonus points if the heel is made out of wood.

5. A perfect flat. Go for a ballet slipper or something more tailored; either way, you’ll need this staple to rescue you from must-have No. 4.

6. An intricately floral-printed piece. It can be a dress or a blouse, but floral fits in nicely with everything girly that is happening. Steer clear of large floral prints, which tend to look matronly.

Replica dressing has diminished. It truly is about taking what is happening in the fashion world and adapting it to your lifestyle and personal preference. You should never wear something you hate just because it is of the moment. (For me, this is bubble skirts. I love them on everyone else, but every time I try one on, I can’t help but feel comical.)

Nor should you feel pressured to force yourself into one box as far as personal style is concerned. Modern dressing is about catering to all of your different moods.

Take Angelina Jolie for example, who can go from super sexy vixen in Versace to mother of three in a belted trench in the blink of an eye, while never compromising the style that is all Jolie.

Give ’em a break
Things to leave behind in 2007

Leggings: They prove to be a two-hit wonder and should go back into the fashion vault.

Constructed jackets: Items that are overly constructed or stiff are definitely out.

Ankle booties: This trend, which was not widely adopted, goes away.

Brocade: Soft floral prints seem much more now.

British invasion: Plaids are way too androgynous for a very girly spring. Choose a floral print instead.

I started the 'Look of the Month' concept last November, where I asked my good friend Geolette to model for me. She's done so much for Dash! She also modeled and did the make-up for my mid-year photo shoot. And yes, she's really good at what she does. She's always willing to help despite her super busy schedule (she has a full-time job as an architect/interior designer). So thanks G-let!

Of course, where would G-let be without her other half, Aurelio? He's this super cool dude with this super cool Vespa! If you're wondering where I got the Vespa in the December shoot, it's from him. And yes, you can 'borrow' his Vespa too, for a very friendly price (ask him). And super thanks for being a P.A./styro handler in my mid-year shoot though I know it's below your league.

This girl has been one of Dash's biggest supporters ever since it started. JL, you are my ambasadress of Dash (ala Cuba Gooding in Jerry Maguire). Thanks for all your Dash visits, purchases, HOT modeling poses and pictures, and promotion. And thanks to your millions of cousins and titas in Tagaytay who bought my stuff. And most especially, muchas gracias for always believing in me (and Dash).

Wyna --- she's another Dash cover girl! Photoshoots are always fun with you! Thanks for all your kakaibang stories and jokes. And thanks for modeling for FU, which will be out mid-December, I think. And thanks to your sisters and cousin who like buying clothes and bags.

Peejay, the bestest guy on earth, you are my ambasador of Dash (ala Cuba Gooding with Tom Cruise stare). I always say I manage Dash by myself, but really, he's my partner not only in Dash but in life. Seriously, where would I be without you? Ja, the December photoshoot was really easy because of you! You always surpsie us with your poses and they always come out great. Thank you for lending your professional modeling skills to Dash despite your busy work/social life schedule.

Marc, you helped me even though I know being a P.A. is far from your line of work. And then I forced you to be a model and you agreed because it was time of need (hehe). You're one of my best and oldest friends. Hope you're happy in Singapore. Thank you so much!

My favorite things (for November)

Simple layered necklaces. Ok, I know the *bling* is the thing. But I'm so tired of over the top accessories. Sometimes, I just want understated elegance. Anyway, they add a touch of glam to everyday look. I love wearing them in school!

Bangles. They go with almost anything and I feel good wearing them. Lately, they're the only piece of accessoriy I want on me (either them or layered necklaces).

Black ballet flats. They're super comfy! Not to mention, they go with almost any outfit. Especially now when I'm into the classic/mod look of the '60s. Think Audrey Hepburn. Skinny jeans, oversized top, black oversized shades. Perfect. And these Chloe flats actually look like mine!

Flat Greek sandals. I feel like I can compensate for the casualness of these sandals by dressing up a little more. I love wearing babydoll dresses with them. Add a bangle and a motorcycle bag and I'm good for the day. They're proof that the boho trend isn't over, it's just glammed up a little, well, maybe a lot.

Peasant dresses. I was never a dress fan. I always thought they were too, err, dressy. That is, until all these cute dresses came out!

Skinny Jeans. I've forgotten about my 20 other pairs of jeans in my closet. For now, I'm focused on the skinny. I know no other cut or fit. And, yes, this is Mary Kate Olsen. Despite the horrible paparazzi pic, she still looks good because...yes, because she is wearing skinny jeans.

Motorcycle and oversized bags. My everyday personal effects: a kikay kit, 2 compacts, a wallet, a small bottle of water, an umbrella, a pair of shades, my cellphone, and notebook. I love these big bags for very obvious reasons. Not to mention, they look reeeally good.

Anyway, I didn't get much sleep last night trying to finish the website. I was so tired. Until now, my right hand is crooked from all the clicking of my unergonomic mouse. And my back is killing me, thanks again to my unergonomic computer chair. But at 3am, I was finally able to put up the November Collection. And it's a Friday, and I'm happy.

This cropped jumper top is one of my favorites from the November Collection. It's so cute! Casual but still a little dressy, and it comes with a tank top already. Perfect with skinny jeans, an oversized bag and black ballet flats. Only P400 (also in white and cream)!

I've been reading about Rachel Zoe everywhere. For those of you who don't know her, she's apparently THE stylist of the moment in Hollywood. Says Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton, Rachel Zoe's 'girls', as she calls her clients. She's responsible for Nicole Richie's transformation from shabby to shabby chic. I admit, I love Nicole's fashion sense now. Lindsay's is okay, though still a bit too artificial and plastic for me. Mischa's, errr, I'll decide when her hits outdo her misses.

Some (obviously bitter) critics are saying that Rachel has created mini clones of herself through these 'girls'. And what are the ingredients needed for this formula? A lot of vintage and branded clothes, bohemian/artsy accessories, tanned (or preferrably bronzed) complexion, and a waif-like body to pull the whole look off.

Anyway, I LOVE her aesthetics (not particularly her style). The word 'wordly' comes to mind. As if it's traveled from the shores of Greece to the banks of India. Like Kate Moss cross breeding with Kimora Lee, or Princess Di joining forces with Prince. It's inspired by the world (much like Dash!).

The strange thing is, when I found pictures of the woman herself, she didn't look particularly stunning. I found her style to be too flashy. Plus, she looks so frail and saggy, and what's up with those wrinkles? She's 33 years old. Scary.

Dear Diary

Dear Diary,

So I've revived this blog and turned it into a Style Diary for Dash. I'm kind of excited to have a diary again, except in this case, it's going to be all about fashion, and I'm actually writing in it for the whole world to see (gone are the days when I had to write in codes and put a lock in it).

Speaking of days gone by, I suddenly got into thinking how I ended up here, in this very moment, writing this particular blog. I didn't think I'd be so much into fashion. It's always been something I've had on the side but I never considered it as a profession. But here I am managing an online fashion store, keeping a style diary, and, hopefully, having a fashion column in a magazine. But this can't possibly be a career? Surely I'm destined for something else, like museums? I am, after all, taking an M.A. on Museum Studies. Even that was unexpected because I graduated with a Film degree back in college. You're probably thinking, why didn't I just take up fashion in school and be done with it? Well, if I did, I probably wouldn't be here.

So, how did I end up here? I guess the answer is in the very question. Fashion. There's really no profound explanation for it. Fashion is a natural part of living in the social world, unless one deliberately resists it. It and I have a very special relationship. I know it's always going to be there, breathing with me, changing with me. I love it but I don't obsess over it. I live it but I don't depend on it (the answer as to why I didn't take it up in school). And now I'm here because it makes me happy when I share it with others. It gives me joy just writing about it. It keeps me company when I run out of things to do. Enjoy!
